Postgraduate studies in civil engineering are ideal if you would like to broaden and deepen your technical knowledge of specialised civil engineering areas and develop a broader perspective and understanding of the issues facing the civil engineering industries. The course is designed for those who have already graduated with a civil engineering or engineering-related degree.
As a graduate of this programme, you'll possess a range of transferable skills. These include problem-solving, research skills, analysis of complex sets of information, use of concepts and theories to make engineering judgments, critical thinking, creativity, communication, teamwork, commercial awareness, and health and safety.
As a graduate of this master's degree, you'll be well prepared for a career in the construction industry and the wider business, management and financial sectors. Civil and structural engineering practices, local authorities, government agencies and civil engineering contractors have employed recent graduates.
Civil and structural engineers can work on buildings of all kinds, as well as transport and communication infrastructures such as bridges, roads, tunnels, canals and other large constructions. They may also work for employers involved in producing, storing and distributing electricity, gas and water. Opportunities are available with employers both in the UK and overseas.
Graduates can also use the qualification as a stepping-stone into a range of other careers. Some of these roles may require relevant experience and/or postgraduate study. Some possibilities include the following:
Important note regarding tuition fees for the 2023-2024 academic year: EU nationals who meet residency requirements (have settled or pre-settled status) may be eligible for 'Home' fee status. If you do not meet these residency requirements, overseas fees will apply. Irish citizens living in the UK or Ireland will be eligible for 'Home' fee status under the Common Travel Area arrangement. Please read the web page on www.gov.uk for information.
